a. any senior

(3) ELKS VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP GRANT

(4) ELKS NATIONAL FOUNDATION LEGACY AWARD
Any senior son, daughter, stepson or stepdaughter of an Elk who has been a member in good standing for at least two years may apply. This can only be completed online at http://elks.org/enf/scholars/legacy.cfm

Deadline: February 1 – This can only be completed online.

SUSAN T. BUFFETT FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
For an application and more information, go to the following website: www.buffettscholarships.org
Eligibility Requirements:

  • be a resident of the State of Nebraska
  • be a graduating senior OR undergraduate student who has not already earned a bachelor’s degree
  • be attending or applying to a Nebraska state public school: e.g. UNL, UNK, UNO, Chadron, Wayne or Peru State College; OR a two-year public college in Nebraska: e.g. Southeast Community College, Northeast Community College, Metropolitan CC, etc.
  • be in need of financial assistance in order to attend school (most students ARE)
  • have maintained a least a 2.5 GPA throughout high school
  • have applied for federal financial aid (the FAFSA form) and have already received the Student Aid Report (SAR) that contains your Expected Family Contribution (EFC)

** The primary criterion is financial need.

PERU STATE COLLEGE – CHADRON STATE COLLEGE – WAYNE STATE COLLEGE TUITION REMISSION SCHOLARSHIPS

(1) The  Board of Trustees Scholarship offers full-tuition scholarships to attend Chadron State, Peru State or Wayne State College.
To qualify, high school seniors must:

  • score 25 or higher on the ACT or 1700 on the SAT
  • graduate from a Nebraska high school this school year
  • enroll as a full-time  student at Chadron, Peru or Wayne State next fall
  • be a resident of Nebraska
  • provide at least one recommendation letter from a high school teacher or administrator
  • meet the January 15 deadline

(2) The Davis-Chambers Freshmen Scholarship
To qualify, graduating high school seniors must:

  • have a 3.0 GPA
  • complete a scholarship application found at www.nscs.edu

AXA COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who have demonstrated a drive to succeed through their accomplishments in high school. To qualify scholarships students must demonstrate:

  • Ambition and drive
  • Determination to set and reach goals
  • Respect for self, family and community
  • Ability to succeed in college

THE ENGEBRETSON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is a one-year scholarship for a high school senior to the college of their choice. However, please note that the person receiving the scholarship will have the opportunity to reapply each year. The amount of this scholarship will pay the tuition cost, not to exceed $10,000.00 per year. The required items must be postmarked on or before March 1st in order for an application to be considered complete.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • Financial Need
  • Academic Merit: Score a 28 composite or higher on the ACT exam (or at least 1240 on the SAT exam); GPA 3.75 or above and/or top 5% of graduating class (other factors considered will be strength of academic course schedule and/or academic improvement)
  • Leadership Potential: factors considered include teacher recommendation (see application), work experience (after school job etc.), extra-curricular activities, and community service

AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS AND DEPARTMENT OF NEBRASKA
There are a total of 11 scholarships awarded to "veteran connected" daughters, sons, granddaughters, grandsonS, great-grand daughters/great-grandsons, etc.

NEBRASKA RURAL COMMUNITY SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION
1. Applicant must be planning to enter the field of education, i.e. teachers, counselors, media specialists, principals.
2. Must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and a 22 or higher on ACT

Applications Due: January 25 to Ms. Barker's office – only one female and one male student can be submitted for this scholarship. The completed application must be submitted by a school official.

NEBRASKA RURAL COMMUNITY SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION – GARY FISHER FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
The applicant must be planning to major in the fine arts.

Applications Due: January 25 to Ms. Barker's office – only one application from FCHS can be submitted for this scholarship. The completed application must be submitted by a school official.

INDEPENDENT INSURANCE AGENTS OF NEBRASKA FOUNDATION
The Independent Insurance Agents of Nebraska Foundation is now accepting applications for three Memorial Scholarships, each in the amount of $1000 – one application.

Selection of the scholarship winners will be based on scholastic application as well as participation and leadership in school, community activities, and educational goals. There are no criteria relative to gender or financial need. It is recommended that the applicant intend to major in business or a business-related field, but not absolute.

INDEPENDENT INSURANCE AGENTS OF NEBRASKA FOUNDATION
The Independent Insurance Agents of Nebraska Foundation is also accepting applications for two Insurance Studies Scholarships in the amount of $1500 each. Two scholarships will be awarded to students (1) graduating from high school this year, and (2) a nontraditional student seeking to further their education. Each applicant must be registered as a full-time student in a Nebraska community college with an accredited program of study recognized by Project InVEST, which is a national insurance studies organization. The current accredited program in Nebraska is at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. BOTH PROGRAMS CAN BE COMPLETED ONLINE. Go to www.northeast.edu for more information.

THE DOUGLAS E. COCHRAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND
This scholarship is for dependent students of former or current Ames Company employees.
Eligibility:

  • be a dependent student, graduating from high school this year, of a former or current employee of the former Ames Company

  • minimum 2.5 GPA
  • have continued financial need

SCOTT MECHAM BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU STUDENT INTEGRITY AWARDS – Six $2000 Scholarships

DALE E. AND EILLEEN M. HEINEMAN SCHOLARSHIP
Two scholarships will be offered to graduates of any Richardson County Nebraska High School who will be enrolled in a College or University program in medicine or other health care field. This includes those in a graduate program.

NEBRASKA INSURANCE FEDERATION and NEBRASKA ACTUARIES CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS
Two $4,000 scholarships will be awarded with each scholarship payable in four equal installments of $1,000 per semester over the course of the academic years 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. In addition, one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for the academic year 2012-2013, payable in two installments of $500 per semester.

Students must be entering a college or university as a freshman in the fall of 2012. The $4,000 scholarships are funded by the Nebraska Insurance Federation and will be awarded to students entering the University of Nebraska at one of its three campuses in Lincoln, Omaha, or Kearney. The $1,000 scholarship is funded by the Nebraska Actuaries Club and will be awarded to a student entering any college or university in the state of Nebraska. Each scholarship is open to students graduating from any U.S. high school. Students must major in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics with an interest in pursuing an actuarial career. All applicants must have demonstrated mathematical ability and evidence of some understanding of the actuarial field.

THE SALVATION ARMY'S D.J. HERO AWARD – $5000
This Scholarship is unique as it honors the “unsung hero” who has overcome challenges and demonstrated leadership.
Applicants will need to do the following:

  1. Describe in detail how you showed courage by acting independently/responsibly when faced with a life challenge or adversity.
  2. List personal goals, describe greatest achievement in life, and describe how you express enthusiasm for life.
  3. Demonstrate commitment to others and the community.

AURORA COOPERATIVE SCHOLARSHIP
The Aurora Cooperative is headquartered in Aurora, but serves customers and patrons in almost 60 communities in Nebraska, Kansas, and three other states.

Four scholarships will be awarded. First place is in the amount of $2,000, and the other three are in the amount of $1,000.

The applicant must attend a public or private post-secondary institution in the fall after high school graduation. The scholarship award will be sent directly to the financial aid office of the institution upon verification of attendance.

The applicant must be majoring in an agriculture related field with final approval of qualifying major from the scholarship committee.

The applicant’s parent/guardian must be an active patron of Aurora Cooperative.

VIETNAM VETERANS OF NEBRASKA EDUCATION & SPECIAL NEEDS (VVNESN) SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship program provides financial assistance to Vietnam-era veterans, dependent children, grandchildren, orphans, and widows of Vietnam veterans for costs associated with undergraduate studies at accredited educational and technical institutions.
