Band receives Superior at competition

Drum majors Ethan Fritz and Victoria Vollmer display the trophy received at the Oxbow Field Marching Competition.

The Falls City Marching Tigers competed at the Oxbow Field Marching Competition in Ashland on Saturday, October 17. The fifty-five member marching band directed by Robert Kercher and flags lead by Noala Fritz received a Superior rating, the highest rating possible at the event. It has been twenty-four years since the Tiger Band had last earned a Superior rating during a field competition.

The Band’s next event is the State Band competition held Saturday, October 24, at Seacrest Field in Lincoln. The Tigers, lead by Drum Majors Victoria Vollmer and Ethan Fritz, will take the field at 5:30 P.M.

The show this year is the Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber, featuring the main theme from Phantom of the Opera, “Jellicle Ball” from Cats, and “You Must Love Me” and “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from Evita. Featured soloists include Jesse Vollmer, Willie Neubauer, Hannah Gilfillan, and Rodney Mount during “You Must Love Me” and David von Behren during “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina."
