Students raise money for cancer research

Students in Jason Bredemeier's English classes at Falls City High School participated in a project to develop a team name and design for a local breast cancer research marathon relay team. Senior Kent Stejskal's team name, "Women of the Corn," and design, a pink ribbon wrapped around the letter "N," was selected by the team. Orders were then taken for the pink shirts that displayed the team name and logo. T-shirt sales resulted in $350 being raised for breast cancer research.

The marathon relay team, which consists of Mandy Bredemeier, Sandy Catlin, Amanda Clary, Denise Daake, and Deb Jarred, will present the donation to the national breast cancer research foundation. The race will be run in Jacksonville, Florida, on Sunday, February 21.

A second order of T-shirts will be made this week. Anyone in the community can order a shirt by contacting Mandy Bredemeier at 245-3551. The shirts, which are $15, must be paid for before they can be ordered. The final order for these shirts will be placed on Friday, February 26. Another donation from the sale of these shirts will be given to a local breast cancer research organization.
