Color Guard speaks to FCMS students

Color Guard members John Bowers and Gene West show Falls City Middle School students the correct way to fold an American flag.
On Friday, April 3, members of the Falls City Color Guard stopped by Falls City Middle School during homeroom for a visit. This group of veterans, lead by Ralph Huettner, shared some valuable information with the students and staff. Mr. Huettner began the program with introductions of the other members of the Color Guard: Lyle Fritz, John Bowers, Gene West, and Floyd Radley.
Each Color Guard member shared a testimonial and gave information about them, their comrades, and family members. Mr. Huettner then shared the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance, first performed by Red Skelton. After a quick review of the proper stance for reciting the pledge, all were asked to stand and jointly state the Pledge. Mr. West and Mr. Bowers demonstrated the proper way to fold the flag while Mr. Huettner shared the meaning of each fold. The men concluded their presentation by sharing other readings and answering a few questions about flag etiquette and the ceremonies at funerals.

Each of the veterans exhibited their pride and continued dedication for our service men and women and their honor for service to the country and each of the students and staff at middle school.
Principal Rick Johnson concluded the morning’s assembly by acknowledging Mr. Huettner and the award he recently received. He was given the Outstanding Board Member honor by the Nebraska Rural Community School Association for his dedication as a 28-year school board member of the Falls City Public Schools. |
