On Wednesday, April 29, Matt Davidson spoke to students at Falls City Middle School and South Elementary School. The former standout University of Nebraska football player has formed a Creating Captains youth foundation whose mission is to "challenge them to be courageous in the face of peer pressure, to become agents of change, and to develop into future leaders.

Davidson spoke to the students using a combination of skills training and character building to excite and empower students to reach their highest potential. His message is built on four core values: character, courage, leadership, and respect.

Creating Captains uses sports as a foundation to engage youth regardless of athletic ability. The foundation and camps address many of the social issues facing youth today. These include making good decisions, peer pressure, hazing, bullying, drugs and alcohol, relationships and dating, teamwork, healthy lifestyles, and higher education.

A Creating Captains Football Camp will be held in Jug Brown Stadium at Falls City High School on June 11 from 8:30 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. Registration begins at 8:00 A.M. and walk-ups are accepted; however, pre-registration is appreciated. The camp is open to students in grades 3 - 8 from any school in the area. The registration fee is $30. Pre-registrations are available from and should be mailed with payment to Kim Vrtiska.

The purpose of the Creating Captains Football Camp is two-fold:

  1. To provide participants the opportunity to develop discipline and character to strengthen inner qualities and grow as individuals in a team atmosphere. This will be an offenisve instruction camp only.
  2. To provide participants the opportunity to learn and improve their football knowledge and skills, under the guidance of experience football players. Each participant will come away with a better understanding of the great game of football. The camp is designed to meet each player's needs at a particular position.

This is a NON CONTACT camp and each drill is designed with the safety of the athlete in mind.
