FCCLA Field Trip Picture
Falls City High School juniors Amanda Gill and Cody Beckner spent the day in Lincoln at the State Capitol and Governor's Mansion.

On February 2, 2009, Cody Beckner and Amanda Gill represented the Falls City Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter at a legislative workshop in Lincoln. During the breakfast at the State Capitol, they met Senator Lavon Heidemann.

In a morning presentation in the Warner Chamber, they learned about the legislative process. Senator Dave Pankonin explained how to become involved in the legislative process. While observing the legislature, the group was introduced by Senator Pankonin. Legislative bill 185 was being debated during this time. It is about changing provisions relating to presentence investigations.

A luncheon was served at the Governor’s Mansion. Several senators, the FCCLA state board of directors, state officers and adviser joined the group for dinner. After dinner, the day concluded with a tour of the Governor’s Mansion.

The event was hosted by the Association of Career and Technical Education of Nebraska (ACTEN) and the Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers of Nebraska (FCSTN). Barbara Watlington, FCCLA adviser, accompanied the students.
