April Students of the Month chosen

Chosen as April Falls City Middle School Students of the Month are, left to right, Emily Weaver, Jesse Butrick, and Marrissa Stark.
The students of the month for April at Falls City Middle School were Jesse Butrick, eighth grade; Emily Weaver, seventh grade; and Marrissa Stark, sixth grade. Each pupil received a T-shirt printed with the Student of the Month logo. The shirts are compliments of Stripes and Signs. The Elks Club sponsored a complimentary meal during Youth Week for all this year’s student of the month recipients and their parents.
Marrissa is the sixth grade student of the month for April. She is the daughter of Jason and Christina Stark. According to her teachers, she is polite and is focused on being a good student. She works hard in class and strives to do her best in her academics and in her behavior. Marrissa enjoys being able to hang out with her friends and getting to switch classes at the middle school. Marrissa’s favorite class is art. She is active in band and is on the Honor Roll and ABBIT lists.
Marrissa keeps active outside of school playing softball. Her favorite movie is Twilight!
Emily Weaver is the seventh grade student of the month for April. She is the daughter of Doug and Karey Weaver . Her teachers say that Emily is an excellent student who demonstrates responsibility and respect for others. Emily enjoys the activities that students have the opportunity to particpate in at middle school. Her favorite class is math. She continues to be on the honor roll and ABBIT lists. Emily is active in chorus, band, volleyball, basketball, show choir, and Clown Troupe.
Emily is a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She also stays active outside of school as a member of 4-H and playing softball. Emily has received numerous medals and ribbons through 4-H activities. Her favorite movie is Flicka!
Jesse Butrick is the eighth grade student of the month for April. He is the son of Clayton and April Butrick. His teachers describe Jesse as a quiet leader who makes positive choices. He is an active student and athlete and maintains a high level of responsibility and reliability. Jesse appreciates his teachers and how they are always willing to help at the Falls City Middle School. His favorite class is Math. He is active in football, basketball, wrestling, track, chorus, and FCA. Jesse continues to be on the honor roll and ABBIT lists and has received several art awards.
Away from school, Jesse is active in church and has medaled or ribboned in numerous wrestling and basketball tournaments and track invites. Jesse’s favorite movie is Never Back Down!
The students who received honorable mention for April include Jerrica Beckner, Brenden Heckenlively, Lee Huettner, Jordan Stoller, Anastasia Finner, Cedric Fritz, Gianandria Herpel, Jacob Mez, Malorie Feighner, Haley Ferris, and Bobbie Popejoy.
To receive Student of the Month, students must first be nominated by one of their teachers. The criteria for nomination includes citizenship, role model, leadership, noteworthy deeds, grades or grade improvement, attendance, school achievements and outside-of-school recognition. All teachers read through the nomination forms after they have been submitted. On the day of voting for Student of the Month, the teachers meet before school. Teachers who have comments about those nominated are asked to contribute. The teachers then vote by private balloting. To win Student of the Month, one student must receive a majority of the votes. Those who don’t win are given honorable mention and are eligible in future months.
