May Students of the Month announced

Chosen as May Falls City Middle School Students of the Month are, left to right, Adam Hagedorn, Ashley Sickel, and Chase Thompson.
The students of the month for May at Falls City Middle School were Ashley Sickel, eighth grade; Adam Hagedorn seventh grade; and Chase Thompson, sixth grade. Each pupil received a T-shirt printed with the Student of the Month logo. The shirts are compliments of Stripes and Signs. The Elks Club sponsored a complimentary meal during Youth Week for all this year’s student of the month recipients and their parents.
Chase Thompson is the sixth grade student of the month for May. He is the son of Shawn and Heather Thompson. His teachers say that Chase is a good student who does his best and is respected by his peers. He is considered a responsible and dependable individual. Chase says the best thing about middle school is the ability to move from class to class. Chase’s favorite class is science. He is on the honor roll and ABBIT lists, along with being recognized for perfect attendance. Chase participates in band, chorus, and Clown Troupe.
Chase is a member of the Church of Christ and the Falls City Wrestling Club. He also participates in flag football and baseball. Chase also enjoys hunting, as well as playing guitar and the drums. As a member of the Falls City Wrestling Club, Chase is a 2-time Wrestler of the Year, a 2-time state champion, and a 2-time state runner-up. Chase’s favorite place to eat in Falls City is Sonic Drive-In.
Adam Hagedorn is the seventh grade student of the month for May. He is the son of Chuck and Julie Hagedorn. His teachers report that Adam is a serious student who works and focuses on his classwork. Adam's favorite class is math. He continues to be on the honor roll and ABBIT lists. Adam participates in football, basketball, track, band, chorus, quiz bowl, and show choir.
Outside of school, Adam’s basketball team placed second in the Beatrice tournament. Adam’s favorite place to eat in Falls City is Pizza Hut.
Ashley Sickel is the eighth grade student of the month for May. She is the daughter of Randy and Beth Sickel. Ashley is described as a team leader, role model, and a positive individual. She is competitive, but is also a team player. Ashley feels that the best thing about the Falls City Middle School is how the teachers are pretty cool and make the classes fun. Her favorite class is Algebra I. Ashley is active in basketball, volleyball, track, band, chorus, show choir, quiz bowl, Clown Troupe, and yearbook staff. She continues to be on the honor roll and ABBIT lists.
Ashley is a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she helps as a Vacation Bible School teacher and is active in the youth fellowship group. She is also a member of Falls City Travelers Softball. Ashley’s favorite place to eat in Falls City is Subway.
The students who received honorable mention for May include Logan Auffert, Sloan Roseberry, Haley Ferris, Austin Schaible, Wade Witt, Haley Cochran, and Allyson Scholl.
To receive Student of the Month, students must first be nominated by one of their teachers. The criteria for nomination includes citizenship, role model, leadership, noteworthy deeds, grades or grade improvement, attendance, school achievements and outside-of-school recognition. All teachers read through the nomination forms after they have been submitted. On the day of voting for Student of the Month, the teachers meet before school. Teachers who have comments about those nominated are asked to contribute. The teachers then vote by private balloting. To win Student of the Month, one student must receive a majority of the votes. Those who don’t win are given honorable mention and are eligible in future months.
