May Students of the Month chosen

Chosen as May Falls City Middle School Students of the Month are, left to right, Sydney Armbruster, Reese Hogue, and Elizabeth Eickhoff.
The students of the month for May at Falls City Middle School were Elizabeth Eickhoff, eighth grade; Reese Hogue, seventh grade; and Sydney Armbruster, sixth grade. Each pupil received a T-shirt printed with the Student of the Month logo. The shirts are compliments of Stripes and Signs. The Elks Club sponsored a complimentary meal during Youth Week for all this year’s student of the month recipients and their parents.
Sydney is the sixth grade student of the month for May. She is the daughter of Duane and Theresa Armbruster. According to her teachers, she is a very responsible student who tries hard and asks a lot of great questions. Sydney appreciates the teachers at Falls City Middle School and how hard they work to make students successful in everything they do. Her favorite class is science. Sydney is active in band, chorus, and Clown Troupe. She is on the honor roll and Abbit lists and has received perfect attendance awards.
Sydney keeps active outside of school as a member of the Falls City Swim Team, Jaycee’s and Traveler’s basketball, Summer League and Traveler’s softball, soccer, and volleyball. She is a member of the Bethal United Methodist Church. Sydney’s favorite music is by Sugarland!
Reese Hogue is the seventh grade student of the month for May. He is the son of Don and Terri Hogue. His teachers say that Reese is a positive role model to his peers and demonstrates responsiblity. Reese appreciates the Falls City Middle School teachers and how well they explain the assignments. His favorite class is social studies. He continues to be on the honor roll and Abbit lists, as well as achieving perfect attendance. Reese was also a member of the first place team of the 7th grade quiz bowl contest. He is active in football, basketball, track, CLOWN Troupe, band, chorus, show choir, yearbook staff, and FCA.
Reese is active in his church group, baseball, soccer, Jaycee Teens, and youth group. Reese’s favorite music is by Nickelback!
Elizabeth Eickhoff is the eighth grade student of the month for May She is the daughter of Marty and Mary Eickhoff. Her teachers describe Elizabeth as a bright and friendly student who is very active in school activities. She enjoys all the choices and opportunities at Falls City Middle School. Her favorite class is math. Elizabeth is active in band, Clown Troupe, basketball, volleyball, track, chorus, show choir, quiz bowl, FCA, cheerleading, and yearbook. She continues to be on the honor roll and Abbit lists, as well as receiving recognition for perfect attendance.
Away from school, Elizabeth is an active member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, STSX3 Youth Group, Happy-Go-Lucky 4-H club, and shooting sports. Elizabeth placed first in state shooting competition and then went on to place 27th out of 193 participants in the national competition. She has received numerous purple and blue ribbons in 4-H activities, as well as gold and silver medals in showmanship. Elizabeth’s favorite music is by Rascal Flatts!
The students who received honorable mention for May include Brittney DeWald, Malorie Feighner, Cord Huettner, Kristen Kean, Bobbie Popejoy, Haley Cochran, Anastasia Finner, Randal Kercher, Chase Thompson, Payton Adams, Jerrica Beckner, Chelsae Campbell, Justin Ernst, Brenden Heckenlively, Zach Jordening, Krystal Samqua, Jordan Stoller, and Brody Weinmann.
To receive Student of the Month, students must first be nominated by one of their teachers. The criteria for nomination includes citizenship, role model, leadership, noteworthy deeds, grades or grade improvement, attendance, school achievements and outside-of-school recognition. All teachers read through the nomination forms after they have been submitted. On the day of voting for Student of the Month, the teachers meet before school. Teachers who have comments about those nominated are asked to contribute. The teachers then vote by private balloting. To win Student of the Month, one student must receive a majority of the votes. Those who don’t win are given honorable mention and are eligible in future months.
