April Students of the Month announced

Chosen as April Falls City Middle School Students of the Month are, left to right, Elizabeth Eickhoff, Shelby Duerfeldt, and Emily Weaver.
The students of the month for April at Falls City Middle School were Shelby Duerfeldt, eighth grade; Elizabeth Eickhoff, seventh grade; and Emily Weaver, sixth grade. Each pupil received a T-shirt printed with the Student of the Month logo. The shirts are compliments of Stripes and Signs. The Elks Club sponsored a complimentary meal during Youth Week for all this year’s student of the month recipients and their parents.
Emily Weaver is the sixth grade student of the month for April. She is the daughter of Doug and Karey Weaver. Her teachers report that she is a very active student. She is a pleasant individual with a positive attitude. She is a reliable and responsible student who leads by her example. Emily says the best thing about middle school is all the opportunities to participate in activities, along with being able to talk during lunch. Emily’s favorite classes are math and English. She is on the honor roll and ABBIT lists, along with being recognized for perfect attendance. Emily participates in band, chorus, and Clown Troupe. She also served as a manager for the middle school girls' basketball team.
Emily is a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and participates in softball, swimming, and 4-H. She has received numerous medals for her efforts in the 4-H program. Emily’s favorite movie is Flicka.
Elizabeth Eickhoff is the seventh grade student of the month for April. She is the daughter of Marty and Mary Eickhoff. Her teachers say that Elizabeth is a positive student and does a terrific job in class everyday. Elizabeth says the best thing about middle school is changing classes and sports. Her favorite class is math. She continues to be on the honor roll and ABBIT lists, as well as being recognized for perfect attendance. Elizabeth participates in volleyball, basketball, band, chorus, Clown Troupe, quiz bowl, and show choir.
Elizabeth is a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where she is a member of the STSX3 Youth Band and helps with Vacation Bible School. She also participates in softball, 4-H, and summer volleyball league. She also helps with the local relay for life. Elizabeth has received numerous ribbons and medals through 4-H competitions. She placed 1st at the State B-B Gun competition in Sydney, before going on to place 27th at the National B-B Gun competition at Bowling Green, Kentucky. Elizabeth’s favorite movie is Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Shelby Duerfeldt is the eighth grade student of the month for April. She is the daughter of Stan and Stacey Duerfeldt. Shelby is described as a wonderful student who is always helpful and kind to others. It was noted that Shelby steers herself and others away from negative influences, while standing up for what is right. Shelby writes that the best thing for her about the Falls City Middle School is how the teachers are nice and treat students with respect. Her favorite classes are math and chorus. Shelby is active in basketball, volleyball, chorus, and show choir. She is on the honor roll and ABBIT lists. Shelby has received Student of the Month honors all three years of middle school.
Shelby is a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where she is also a member of the STSX3 Youth Band and helps with Vacation Bible School. She is also active in 4-H and summer volleyball league. Shelby has received gold medals in 4-H speech and music, along with a gold medal from the local Elk’s Hoop Shoot and a silver medal in the Elk’s District Hoop Shoot. Shelby’s favorite movie is Enchanted.
The students who received honorable mention for April include James Allen, Clayton Burge, Chris Coonce, Cedric Fritz, Gianandria Herpel, Brittany Ritter, Chase Thompson, Jesse Butrick, Ashley Crawford, Adam Hagedorn, Wade Witt, Logan Auffert, Lucas Schawang, and Jessica Yoesel.
To receive Student of the Month, students must first be nominated by one of their teachers. The criteria for nomination includes citizenship, role model, leadership, noteworthy deeds, grades or grade improvement, attendance, school achievements and outside-of-school recognition. All teachers read through the nomination forms after they have been submitted. On the day of voting for Student of the Month, the teachers meet before school. Teachers who have comments about those nominated are asked to contribute. The teachers then vote by private balloting. To win Student of the Month, one student must receive a majority of the votes. Those who don’t win are given honorable mention and are eligible in future months.
