Principal presented with literacy award

North School Principal Tim Heckenlively displays his award with teachers Gail Froeschl, Kim Oliver, Deb Harris, Deb Palmer, and media specialist Nancy Wittwer.
At the spring meeting of the Apple Valley Reading Association, North School Principal Tim Heckenlively was awarded the Celebrate Literacy Award. Principal Heckenlively has shown his dedication to helping all students learn. He has pursued grants to help acquire literacy materials and provide staff with intervention programs for struggling readers. The principal has also established building learning teams which focus on improving the reading skills of all North School students. Most recently, he has led the North School staff in the acquisition of a new reading series that meets current research-based standards. He is an advocate for the RtI (response to intervention) at both the local and state levels. Beyond North School, Mr. Heckenlively serves on the Falls City Library and Arts Center board, and is a member of various other community organizations.
The Apple Valley Reading Association is comprised of educators, pre-service educators, parents, librarians and others interested in promoting literacy from the five southeast Nebraska counties.
