FCMS students step up to help Haiti

Mr. Lampe's winning homeroom students are, First Row, left to right–Nicholas Vasquez, Ryan Rose, Trenton Pentecost, and Melissa Feighner; Second Row–Kira Vollan, Alex Harris, and Debra McKinney; Third Row–Anisa Carter, Randal Kercher, and Miranda Zimmerman; and Fourth Row–Brooke Scheitel and Tyler Mackey.
Falls City Middle School students are very generous when it comes to helping those in need. On Friday, February 5th, students were given the opportunity to wear hats in school if they paid $1.00 for this activity. There was $86.00 collected from staff and students during the "Hats for Haiti" event.
During the month of February, students participated in “Change for Haiti." Each homeroom had a one-gallon milk jug, and students were encouraged to drop change in the container for the victims of Haiti. On February 23, all of the students gathered in the gym to weigh each homerooms monetary collections. Mr. Lampe’s homeroom collected 72 pounds, 3 ounces! Mrs. Mount’s homeroom came in second with 30 pounds, 6 ounces. Third place went to Mrs. Flynn’s homeroom with 27 pounds, 2 ounces. There was a grand total of 233 pounds, 5 ounces of coins and a few dollar bills collected by middle school. Richardson County Bank and Trust used their change machine to count the enormous amount of coins, which totaled $851.00.
"It’s great to see the citizenship displayed by our youth; the adults in their lives have exposed them to this behavior," said Middle School Counselor Linnette Fankhauser. "When the adults in their lives display care, concern, and generosity our youth will sometimes surpass our example."
