December Students of the Month chosen

Chosen as December Falls City Middle School Students of the Month are, left to right, Carley Youde, Zach Jordening, and Madison Olberding.

The students of the month for December at Falls City Middle School were Madison Olberding, eighth grade; Zach Jordening, seventh grade; and Carley Youde, sixth grade. Each pupil received a T-shirt printed with the Student of the Month logo. The shirts are compliments of Stripes and Signs. The Elks Club will sponsor a complimentary meal during Youth Week for all this year’s student of the month recipients and their parents.

Carley is the sixth grade student of the month for December. She is the daughter of Frank and Nicole Killingsworth. According to her teachers, she has a positive attitude toward school. She is a very responsible and reliable student. Carley enjoys switching classes and having lockers. Her favorite class is art. Carley is active in chorus. She is on the honor roll and ABBIT lists. This Student of the Month recently received second place for her essay on “Why I am Proud to be an American” and competed in the Richardson County Spelling Bee.

Outside of school, Carley is an active in midweek classes at Christ Lutheran Church, softball, and soccer. She was named to the All Star team in softball. Her favorite movie is My Sister’s Keeper, and she enjoys eating at Subway!

Zach is the seventh grade student of the month for December. He is the son of Ron and Diane Jordening. His teachers say that Zach is a responsible student. He enjoys the teachers at Falls City Middle School. His favorite class is science, and he continues to be on the honor roll and ABBIT lists. He is already active or planning on participating in football, basketball, track, band, chorus, and quiz bowl.

Zach is also active in summer baseball. Zach’s’s favorite movie is Fight Club, and he enjoys eating at Breadeaux Pizza!

Madison is the eighth grade student of the month for December. She is the daughter of Patrick and Teresa Olberding. Madison teachers describe her as a great student who is active in extracurricular activities. Overall, she is a wonderful student to have in the classroom. Madison enjoys all of the teachers at middle school who she sees as very nice. She describes their classes as really fun. Her favorite class is math. She is active in volleyball, basketball, track, band, chorus, FCA, quiz bowl and CLOWN TROUPE. She continues to be on the honor roll and ABBIT lists. Madison received a Superior on her art entry at the Richardson County Fair.

Away from school, Madison is an active member of First Christian Church, Logos, and softball. She also particpated in the Nemaha County Wellness Center’s volleyball and basketball leagues. Madison’s favorite movie is The Proposal, and she enjoys eating at Subway!

The students who received honorable mention for December include Bailey Bindle, Danielle Kirkendall, Maggy Rieschick, Colton Riess, Avery Scott, Brandon Gibson, Delisa Kirkendall, Elizabeth Oliver, Kaylee Rosenberger, Karle Embretson, Giana Herpel, Derick Pounds, and Allyson Scholl.

To receive Student of the Month, students must first be nominated by one of their teachers. The criteria for nomination includes citizenship, role model, leadership, noteworthy deeds, grades or grade improvement, attendance, school achievements and outside-of-school recognition. All teachers read through the nomination forms after they have been submitted. On the day of voting for Student of the Month, the teachers meet before school. Teachers who have comments about those nominated are asked to contribute. The teachers then vote by private balloting. To win Student of the Month, one student must receive a majority of the votes. Those who don’t win are given honorable mention and are eligible in future months.
