November Students of the Month chosen

Chosen as November Falls City Middle School Students of the Month are, left to right, Hannah Weaver, Derik Eickhoff, and Mitchell Harling.

The students of the month for November at Falls City Middle School were Mitchell Harling, eighth grade; Derik Eickhoff, seventh grade; and Hannah Weaver, sixth grade. Each pupil received a T-shirt printed with the Student of the Month logo. The shirts are compliments of Stripes and Signs. The Elks Club will sponsor a complimentary meal during Youth Week for all this year’s student of the month recipients and their parents.

Hannah is the sixth grade student of the month for November. She is the daughter of Doug Weaver and Karey Weaver. According to her teachers, Hannah has a positive attitude toward school. She is very responsible and is an active participant in classroom discussions. Hannah enjoys switching classes and the responsibility it gives at middle school. Her favorite classes have been spelling and math. Hannah is active in chorus and band. She is on the first quarter honor roll, ABBIT, and perfect attendance lists.

Outside of school, Hannah is an active member of 4-H. Her favorite movie is My Girl and she enjoys the music of Carrie Underwood!

Derik is the seventh grade student of the month for November. He is the son of Darren and Donna Eickhoff. His teachers say that Derik is an active participant in class discussions and shows a willingness to help others as they need it. Derik enjoys the teachers and the food at middle school. His favorite class is math, and he continues to be on the honor roll and ABBIT lists. He is already active or planning on participating in football, basketball, track, band, chorus, show choir, and CLOWN Troupe.

Derik is active in church activities, 4-H, and summer baseball. His entry to Voice of Democracy was selected as the winner of the state competition and has moved on to the national competition. Derik’s favorite movie is Walker: Texas Ranger, and he enjoys the music of Tobey Keith!

Mitchell is the eighth grade student of the month for November. He is the son of Nick and Laurel Harling. His teachers describe Mitchell as a great student who is active in extracurricular activities. Overall, he is a wonderful and exciting student to have in the classroom. Mitchell enjoys all of the teachers at the middle school who he sees as extremely nice and helpful. His favorite class is Algebra. He is active in football, basketball, track, chorus, FCA, and quiz bowl. He continues to be on the honor roll and ABBIT lists.

Away from school, Mitchell is an active member of his church’s youth group and summer baseball. Mitchell’s favorite movie is Glory Road and enjoys the music of Daughtry!

The students who received honorable mention for November include Chessanie Blakley, Madison Buckminster, Abigail Gilkerson, Justin Kercher, Kayly Leafty, Carley Youde, Jill Lunsford, Elizabeth Oliver, Marissa Stark, Todd Thompson, Weston Witt, Chance Huppert, Waylon Knapp, Jacob Mez, Madison Olberding, Allyson Scholl, and Miranda Zimmerman.

To receive Student of the Month, students must first be nominated by one of their teachers. The criteria for nomination includes citizenship, role model, leadership, noteworthy deeds, grades or grade improvement, attendance, school achievements and outside-of-school recognition. All teachers read through the nomination forms after they have been submitted. On the day of voting for Student of the Month, the teachers meet before school. Teachers who have comments about those nominated are asked to contribute. The teachers then vote by private balloting. To win Student of the Month, one student must receive a majority of the votes. Those who don’t win are given honorable mention and are eligible in future months.
