Hurkman wins first in State Powerlifting

FCHS senior Russell Hurkman completes a dead lift in the State Powerlifting Championships.

Russell Hurkman, a senior at Falls City High School, won first place in the 2009 Class C State Powerlifting Meet. He competed in the 181-pound class at the meet held on Saturday, March 21, at Lincoln Christian School in Lincoln.

The competitors competed in the squat, bench press and dead lift. Hurkman lifted 352.5 pounds in the squat, 341.5 pounds in bench press, and 407.7 pounds in the dead lift. The FCHS senior's total of 1101.7 pounds garnered him the first place ranking.

Competing in the meet at Lincoln Christian School, the weight is adjusted prior to Hurkman's bench press attempt.
