Boys' team ends 47-year State drought
On Thursday, March 11, the Falls City Boys' Basketball team will play in the Nebraska State Boys' Basketball Tournament for the first time in 47 years. The first game will be held at 10:45 A.M. in Pershing Auditorium in Lincoln. If the team wins the first game, they will play on Friday, March 12, at 9:00 A.M. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center (link to the Boys' Basketball State Championship Bracket).
The 23-2 Tigers are rated 3rd in Class C-1. Head Coach Don Hogue said, "This has been a tremendous season for this ball team. To have ten seniors who have stayed with it, continued to improve, and play to their strength was a huge accomplishment." He added, "This team has been the hardest working practice team I have ever coached."
This has been a season of records. The team broke the school record of most wins in a season after winning their 21st game. When the final season results are in, they will also break the defensive scoring average record. Individually, Trent Scheitel is already FCHS's all-time leading scorer, setting both the single season most-points-scored and career most-points-scored records. The senior has also made it into the Falls City High School record book for career rebounds, single season blocks, and career blocks.
"The team set a goal at the beginning of the year, and that was to never get outworked," concluded Coach Hogue. "They have done just that, even in our two losses."
