Kindergarten Students Receive Books
Steve Kottich and his family have purchased a book for every kindergarten student from the Scholastic Book Fair at North School in memory of his late wife, Diana. This year Steve was accompanied by his daughter Erin Waller and her husband Doug, and grandchildren Stella and Sam of Falls City. Steve's daughter Aliza Stremlau, was also in attendance with her three children: Harrison, Parker and Sylvie of Lincoln.
This is the fourth year the Diana Kottich Memorial Fund has purchased books for all kindergarten students from the spring Book Fair at North School. Each book is marked with a memorial plate.
Diana, a former kindergarten teacher at North School and avid reader, died December 14, 2014 from ovarian cancer. Reading was one of Diana's passions and she always enjoyed selecting books from the Book Fair both for her classroom and her grandchildren.
Elementary Librarian, Gail Froeschl, stated the purchase of these books has three benefits. Each kindergarten student gets their own book to enjoy and the library raises needed funds for new books from the profit of the sale. In addition, the purchase made through the Scholastic All for Books Donation Program is matched by Scholastic dollar for dollar in books to be distributed to children through the Kinds in Need Foundation.
