Approximately 450 students from twenty-eight Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas high schools competed for scholarships and awards at the 49th annual Peru State College Business Contest on Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Competitions were held in 16 different disciplines. First-place winners in each of the 16 categories were awarded $500 tuition scholarships for on-campus classes to Peru State. Medals were awarded to first through fifth place winners. Emmy Lu Feek won a 4th Place in Business Math. Donna Eickhoff is the business instructor at Falls City High School.

Sophomore cheese lab....
Student's took their knowledge of bacteria and made flavored cream cheese. After learning about the different kinds of bacteria, the Biology classes processed cream cheese. Each group sterilized their whole milk and observed the process of making cheese. After coagulating the casein protein in milk and then separating the milk into solid curds and liquid whey. The liquid whey is drained away, and the curds remain in which are flavored with a flavoring of their choice.





Nine Falls City High School student artists have had their work chosen for the Scholastic Art Awards of Nebraska 2022 Exhibition. This is the largest student art show in Nebraska.
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers honors the creative talents of young teens. Overall, there were 2,531 individual works and 75 portfolios entered. Student work was recognized by a panel of creative professionals based on originality, technical skill, and personal voice. Since 1923, the Awards have recognized some of America’s most celebrated artists and writers while they were teenagers, including: Tschabalala Self, Stephen King, Kay WalkingStick, Charles White, Joyce Carol Oates, and Andy Warhol.
Falls City High School art student, Grace Morris's Gold Key work has been advanced to the national level of adjudication in New York City. Awarded works are on display at the TAC building, 3215 Cuming St. Omaha, NE 68131. A reception for award winners was held in Omaha on February 26.

Thank you to Sheriff Hardesty for setting up our presentation this morning with our local DEA and FBI offices. Our students learned about the dangers of street drugs and about careers in the FBI and DEA.


As we head into March, the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program will be highlighting broccoli. Broccoli is a well known vegetable that can be served raw or cooked. Did you know that a cup of broccoli contains more vitamin C than an orange, which will helps promote a healthy immune system. There are many fun facts highlighted in the attached pictures, like broccoli is part of the cabbage family and lots of broccoli is grown in Nebraska. Also check out the broccoli recipes.

Congratulations to senior Dalton Helmick, son of, David and Jenny Helmick, who signed a letter of intent to play football this fall for Hastings College. Dalton has been a tremendous leader and started both ways for the Tiger squad this season. Dalton worked hard in practice and was an outstanding teammate. Dalton was willing to play any role the coaches thought could help the team. Daltons teammates, coaches, and friends will be excited to watch him compete for the crimson and white of the Broncos. We wish Dalton the best of luck next year at the next level!



High School Parent/Teacher conferences will be held at the high school gymnasium from 4:00 - 7:30 pm on Tuesday and Thursday, March 1st and March 3rd. Please attend and visit with your child's teachers.
