Kiwi is the fruit being highlighted in the month of May. Kiwi is a unique fruit because of its fuzzy skin. Kiwi are grown on vines, similar to grapes. There are even some kiwi grown in Nebraska. Check out the attached information sheet and recipe sheet to learn more about kiwi fruits.

On Sunday, April 24th, the Falls City FFA held the annual FFA banquet and celebrated the chapter’s achievements from the last year. Our annual pork meal was donated by JPs, Frederick Farms, and Bowen Farms. The sides were prepared by the kitchen staff. A variety of cupcakes were donated by Rita Johansen. We cannot thank you enough for your continuous help!
We recognized competitive teams and handed out ribbons for them. These events included land judging, livestock judging, LDEs, and CDEs. We also awarded proficiencies and degrees to active members. Greenhand degrees are typically earned by first-year members who have been active in FFA, have an understanding of agriculture, have learned about the FFA Organization and agriculture, and have plans for an SAE (Supervised Agriculture Experience). Members receiving the Greenhand degree are Katelynn Titus, Grace Morris, Kaleigh Heath, Ruby Nguyen, Malesa Wickham, Kaedyn Courtney, Aryauna Clements, Kenzie Johansen, and Olivia Frederick.
Members who receive their Chapter degree are members who have earned their Greenhand degree and are still active members in FFA and agriculture classes for their second year. They have also invested time and money into their SAE and have worked hard on building their record outside of the classroom. Students earning their Chapter degree are Wyatt Olberding, Cayleigh Eickhoff, Jozie Kirkendall, Jordan Wilcox, Kemper Foster, and Lexi Brewer
This year, four members from our chapter earned their State degrees! To earn a state degree, students must be active members, have a minimum of 360 hours in agricultural classes, and productively earn or invest $3,000 or work a set number of unpaid hours outside of the classroom. They must submit two years' worth of records, submit an application to be reviewed by the state, and complete an interview given by other ag teachers from Nebraska. Members earning their State degrees are Justin Brewer, Raymond Feek, Eliza Kuker, and Makayla Mason.
The highest degree an individual can earn is the American Degree. One has to be removed from high school for at least one year to apply and productively invest or have earned over $10,000 in their SAEs throughout their high school career. They must have taken at least 540 hours of agricultural classes and meet several other qualifications. Falls City has one FFA member who earned their degree, Seth Brewer, who was recognized at the 94th National FFA Convention in 2021. Congratulations to all of the degree recipients!
Next up were the proficiency awards. Proficiencies are given to students who have designed and implemented their Supervised Agricultural Experience. The students who received proficiencies at the chapter level are Jodie Uhri, Makayla Mason, Kaleigh Heath, Katelynn Titus, Eliza Kuker, and Wyatt Olberding. Jodie Uhri earned gold in her Goat Production Placement. Makayla Mason earned gold in her Small and Companion Animal Placement. Kaleigh Heath earned Bronze in Diversified Ag. Katelynn Titus earned Silver in her Swine Entrepreneurship. Eliza Kuker earned gold in Grain Production. Wyatt Olberding earned silver in his Beef Cattle Entrepreneurship and gold in his Beef Cattle Placement.
The students who received proficiencies at the district level are Makayla Mason, Jodie Uhri, Cayleigh Eickhoff, Eliza Kuker, and Jozie Kirkendall. Makayla Mason earned gold and moved forward to state in Small Animal Production. Jodie Uhri earned silver in her Goat Production Entrepreneurship. Cayleigh Eickhoff earned bronze in her Beef Cattle Entrepreneurship. Eliza Kuker earned bronze in her Grain Production Placement. Jozie Kirkendall earned bronze in her Goat production Entrepreneurship.
At the state level, Makayla Mason placed 2nd in her Small and Companion Animals Placement and earned a silver plaque.
The FFA Alumni also presented their annual FFA Alumni Scholarship to Justin Brewer, Eliza Kuker, and Makayla Mason. We can’t thank the Alumni enough for their continuous support of our chapter throughout the years. The final step of the banquet is to install the new officers and retire the 2021-2022 officer team. Officers Makayla Mason- President, Justin Brewer- Treasurer, Eliza Kuker- Reporter, and Raymond Feek- Sentinel were retired and hung up their jackets. The 2022-2023 Falls City FFA officer team of Jodie Uhri- President, Cayleigh Eickhoff- Vice President, Jordan Wilcox- Treasurer, Jozie Kirkendall- Reporter, Kemper Foster- Sentinel, Alexis Brewer- Parliamentarian. Congratulations to the new officers and good luck next year to all new and returning members!
