In this unit, students reread 4 informational texts from The Chocolate Collection. They chose evidence from the texts to reference as they debated whether or not chocolate should be added to school lunches. Students worked collaboratively and included some very interesting chocolate facts to prepare their arguments.

In January and February, the South School counseling department is working with the Nebraska Extension office to teach 3rd & 4th graders about leadership. Using the Discipline with Purpose unit, South School has 10 self-discipline skills, leadership being one of them. Pictured here, Kaytlyn Kennedy, a UNL Extension Educator, directs the 3rd grade class on how to work together and create a sense of belonging in groups by performing skits on what they did during one of the student snow days. The 4th grade is reviewing and building off what Mrs. Kennedy taught them last year, working on non-verbal communication skills to line up by height.
