FCT ESports Program Set Sights on the NSESA State Tournament
This Fall Season for the Nebraska Schools ESports Association has been one of the best for the Falls City Tigers Program. The success is in large part due to the dedication and passion of several FCT ESports team members from the high school and the middle school and Coaches Kory Huppert and Nathaniel Syslo. It reflects the growth of the program and the NSESA over the last six years.
The Tigers begin the NSESA playoffs this week, and they go into it with some competitors who are ranked quite high in their division for the state.
The FCT Marvel Rivals team (Deacon Jacobs (So), Asher Kuker (So), Carter Rumbaugh (So), Camden Jean (So), Tripp Lippold (Jr), Kaleb Kaiser (So), Elijah Diltz (Fr), Seth Jackson (8th), Noah Jacobs (8th), and Kreighton Huppert (7th)) with a record of 5-2 is ranked 4th in Division 3. Their only two losses have come to #1 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (7-0) and #2 Bridgeport (6-1). The team will more than likely play #13 Freeman this week in the first round of playoffs. With a win, they will probably play #5 Thayer Central for an opportunity to compete at the NSESA State Tournament at Milford University on Friday, November 21, in the Final Four.
In Super Smash Bros Ultimate, the top sixty-four competitors of 125 across the state in Division 3 earn spots in the playoffs. Five of the six FCT SSBU competitors have qualified for playoffs. Sophomore Deacon Jacobs (6-1) is ranked 6th in the state, sophomore Camden Jean (5-2) is ranked 20th, sophomore Asher Kuker (5-2) is ranked 26th, sophomore Burke Wissman (5-2) is ranked 30th, and sophomore Carter Rumbaugh (4-3) is ranked 48th. The Tigers have never qualified a team or competitor for the SSBU Varsity State Tournament. Last year, Jean, Jacobs, Kuker, and Rumbaugh all lost in the quarterfinals for the Duos season, which would have put them in the Elite Eight who go on to state. For Solos, the top sixteen qualify.
For the Middle School SSBU Division, there are over fifty competitors across the state. Eighth grader Liam Sutton (6-1) is ranked 3rd in the state and eighth grader Noah Jacobs (6-1) is ranked 4th. Eighth grader Dierks Foster (4-3) is ranked 24th and seventh grader Leland Simmonds (3-4) is ranked 28th. Last year, in the SSBU Duos Competition, Sutton and Jacobs placed 4th at state, and were ranked 1st at one point in the season.
